ATV2 Development Kit Update
The Pledgie-funded list of features has been updated a little:
- CA$135: An AppleTV 2 to hack on — complete!
- CA$600: Stub libraries and basic Xcode integration
CA$1000: Full Xcode integration for on-device debugging, like iPhone/iPadCA$3000: A simulator application
What’s happening?
I am in the final stage of negotiations for commercial funding of the development of the Xcode plugins and applications which constitute the last two items above. As a result, I will not be including those in this campaign as it wouldn’t be proper to accept donations for something which I then sell to someone else.
Rest assured that hobbyists and open-source advocates will be well-served by the changes: The first deliverable above will be available as open-source software (insofar as it even contains any source code— probably some Ruby scripts for processing). The remaining parts will be available for free to anyone for non-commercial use, with a nominal fee (a one-off fee, I believe, but I’m not 100% certain) for use in the development of commercial products.
This enables me to justify to my family (who already don’t see enough of me) all the time I’ll be putting into the very large and involved project while still being able to guarantee delivery at the earliest possible time. The funder will also be able to recoup their investment by getting a product with commercial possibilities.
