Basically, any publisher who sells content via its own site for iPads and iPhones will also have to sell it via Apple’s iTunes—and pay Apple a 30% cut of all sales.

Apple Announces Date On Which It Will Start Screwing Publishers

Since I’m on hiatus right now due to a change in the rules for my work permit application, I’ve got no idea whether Kobo has been explicitly informed of this. I believe there’s an update in the works though, so if they do hear about it then it’ll be soon.

I have to be careful what I say, but for the record: I still don’t agree with this policy, and I think the people in charge of it at Apple know exactly what they’re asking of distributors: give us all income earned through your iOS apps.
