“A simple solution: Apple requires in-App purchases for any content that exists solely for iOS, while not for any content that is available to other devices (computer, handhelds, e-readers, etc.). This protects Kindle while not allowing pure iOS developers to do an end-run around Apple’s revenue stream.”

Awesome. I like it.
As the rules currently stand, the B&N/Kindle/Kobo apps on iOS wouldn’t even be able to remove purchase support altogether in order to comply. Because the apps can handle content sold by the creator of the app, the rules say they MUST make that content available using IAP from within the app.
In other words:
- Do you have an iOS app?
- Do you sell stuff?
- Is your iOS app able to do something (anything) with that content?
- Your iOS app must now offer to sell that content internally.
